Halloweensie 2023

I love writing contests like Susanna Hill’s Halloweensie.

Here are the rules: write a 100 word Halloween story appropriate for children using the words werewolf, superstition, and fright.

How fun is that? But aside from the chance to create a story with specific and enticing parameters, I love how these contests deepen the bond in our writing community. We can to cheer each other on and share our work. Often, I hold my writing close and for these contests I relish the opportunity to share my stories with everyone.

Bonus fun fact: It was an entry in another of Susanna Hill’s contests (Valentinesy 2022) that turned into my picture book NO LOVE POTION that will be published in September 2025 by the Little Press and illustrated by the amazing Merry Miller-Gass.
